Construction management:
Expert, personal support for the construction project before, during and after the construction phase

Core insulation:
Insulation inside the triple wall / hollow wall

D

Double wall:
Another term for triple wall

Drainage:
Vertical: Conducting seepage water in front of the exterior walls into the horizontal pipe system Horizontal: Pipe system at the level of the foundation plate for conducting away seepage water that appears

Drainage flushing duct:
Used to check for correct functioning and provides a way to flush the drainage system

E

Earthquake-proof:
Special static and structural design of the cellar and the foundation slab for earthquake-risk areas; includes among other things increasing the steel inserts.

Earthworks:
Excavation of the foundation pit and refilling of the work spaces, excavation of the channels for sewage, application of a blinding layer

Electric conduits / boxes:
Preparation for the electrical installations (for cables and socket-outlets)

Element ceiling:
Prefabricated ceiling that reaches its total thickness when filled with site-mixed concrete

Entrance platform:
Concrete slab attached to the cellar in front of the house entrance

External waterproof layer ("Schwarze Wanne"):
Cellar sealed against pressing water by means of sealing sheets (especially in live-in basements)

F

Filling protection:
Protection of the external wall sealing against mechanical forces during refilling of the work spaces (e.g. insulation plates, seepage plates, membranes, etc.)

Floor-to-floor height
Cellar height from the upper edge of the bare foundation plate to the upper edge of the bare ceiling

Foundation plate:
Foundation structure the cellar is built on

Foundation slab:
House foundation without a cellar

Frost-free foundation:
Deep foundation in the exposed area of the foundation slab or plate not covered with earth

Full basement:
Full basement under the ground floor

G

Grounding rod:
Steel band for earthing the electrical installations (laid in the foundation slab or foundation plate)

Groundwater:
Standing water table in the ground. If the water table is at the level of the cellar, special measures (e.g. waterproof construction) are necessary

H

Hollow wall:
Another term for triple wall

I

Internal cellar staircase:
e.g. a concrete flight of stairs prefabricated at the factory (underpinned or self-supporting)

Internal walls:
Bearing and non-bearing prefabricated concrete walls for subdividing spaces

J

Jointless concrete core:
Created by pouring site-mixed concrete into the triple wall / hollow wall or ceiling

L

Light well:
Protection for the cellar window in the area with earth fill. Serves to illuminate the cellar rooms

Live-in cellar:
Heated spaces in the basement, thermal insulation must be provided.

M

Membrane:
Filling protection with sliding foil and fleece Protects of the seal / external wall against mechanical forces during refilling of the work spaces

O
